Angry 11 Year Old Sister

My sister is 11 years old and has extreme anger issues. The other day she was asked to do her chore and she threw herself to the ground, screamed and cried and threatened to run away.

This is pretty regular for her for even the simplest things. Another time she was asked by our mother to hand her phone to her so she could go through it (this is quite regular for us) and she immediately began to scream at her and refused to give mom her phone.

It's so bad to the point where you can't sit near her or she'll complain about you, and you can't ask her to pass you a pen and she'll throw it and stomp to her room.

Mom has tried to discipline her, but nothing works. She's always rude, calling us names, and never listening. She's never been neglected or abused so I don't know what could be causing this problem.

My other sister and I have tried to deal with this and help her through whatever this is but she just continues to get worse and worse. How do we help, and how am I supposed to deal with this?

There Are Several Possible Causes

Hello, and thanks for telling your story here. It sounds like your sister may be getting some mileage out of her anger. Unfortunately, as a sibling, you're not the one to deal with this. It needs to be your parents.

They may be unintentionally giving her more attention for her anger than for anything else she does, and she may also be getting out of things she doesn't want to do because of a tantrum. Not knowing any more than I do, I can't say anything for sure.
